LABBS Youth Chorus

Come and meet young women who love to sing!

As part of its Youth Development programme, LABBS supports two LABBS Youth Choruses for young women aged between 7 and 29, from all over the UK, including a competing chorus for young women and non-binary people comfortable in women-centred spaces, who are over 18 years old.

Whether you have lots of barbershop experience or none, our enthusiastic members enjoy top-quality coaching from experts, and the chance to take on leadership roles within the chorus, such as being section leaders. Involvement in the chorus is a great way for young people to learn new skills and grow in confidence.

Both choruses meet every few months to rehearse, with some additional days aimed purely at the over 18 chorus. In 2017 the over-18 chorus competed at the European convention hosted by LABBS, winning the Phoenix Trophy for the Best Small Chorus in the LABBS Chorus contest, and won it again at LABBS Convention 2019!

The LABBS Youth Chorus on stage

The full LABBS Youth Chorus performs each year at the annual LABBS Convention as mic-coolers, and also on shows by other LABBS choruses. We are funded by LABBS and are able to offer financial support to attend rehearsals and other events. All members of the youth chorus are also members of LABBS.

The LABBS Youth Chorus offers the opportunity for its members to develop their singing and performance skills, as well as build confidence, learn life skills and make friends. Many of our past members are now chorus and quartet medallists, with Gold Medal quartets Miss-Demeanour and Fortuity having met through the Youth Chorus, and three-quarters of 2018 Gold Medal Quartet winners, Avalon, were also members.

We are always looking for new members! So if you're aged 7-29 and love singing, get in touch with the LABBS Youth Co-ordinator at youth@labbs.org.uk.

We also have a Youth Director on the LABBS Board, who ensures that LABBS is doing the best it can for our younger members, and that young women are taken into account when making important decisions.
